It’s been too long..

by thebridalrecipe on April 17th, 2012

So after a month of not blogging, I figured it’s time to come back…Between working out constantly, and starting a new business the blog has, unfortunately, gone by the wayside a bit. But on to the good news…

I’M DOWN 25 POUNDS!

Therefore, about halfway to my goal! It’s been pretty liberating getting to wear some of the special pieces in my closet that have been out of use for the last 5 years…I was in a wedding this past weekend (wearing a size 4), and got some pretty motivating photos…Stay tuned for the play-by-play of my workout and eating schedules.

Inspiration: Footwear

by thebridalrecipe on February 23rd, 2012

I think the most important part of chosing footwear for any bride is taking the venue into consideration. If you’re getting married on the beach 5 inch Christian Louboutin stilletos probably aren’t the best way to go…I personally picked my shoes with two things in mind: I want to be as tall as possible and I’m walking on tanbark down the isle…answer: espadrilles! And who better to turn to than Tory Burch!

Motivation: 5k!

by thebridalrecipe on February 15th, 2012

Just signed up for my first official race ever! A 5k along the river in Napa on April 28th…picturesque no? It’s powered by my awsome bootcamp Napafit! For any summer brides in the Bay Area, this may be a fun added push towards those weight loss goals…or at least that’s what I’m banking on!

Motivation: Weekend Indulgence

by thebridalrecipe on February 13th, 2012

After a crazy week of 5 am workouts, low-calorie meals, and bootcamp, by Saturday, I was sore and exhausted. I’ve decided that one of the only ways to keep my sanity through this whole process, is allowing myself one “cheat” meal a week….I truely love food way too much to call anything “cheating”, but essentially I get one meal to eat and drink anything I want!

It was an uncharacteristically beautiful day (considering it’s the beginning of February) in the East Bay, so Nick and I drove out to one of our favorite spots…Sausalito…and went to Poggio for a particularly indulgent lunch.

The perfect Hendricks Martini with a blue cheese stuffed olive to start….little nibble from the bread basket as well.

Castelmagno Cheese with deep-fried brussel sprouts and apple…..a revelation!

Homemade sausage pizza with marinated sunchokes and a glass of Chianti.

Nice long post-lunch walk looking at our gorgeous city!

Motivation: The “Before” Picture

by thebridalrecipe on February 7th, 2012

It’s official…I’ve been gearing up for a couple of weeks now (weaning myslef off the fatty food and booze while doing a few light workouts), but now I’m in full weight loss mode! I’ve got 5 months and 40-50 pounds to lose…it’s going to take extreme dedication and motivation, both of which have been inconsistent in the past, but I really believe that the upcoming wedding will serve it’s purpose, and carry me through till the end.

In order to facilitate this lifestyle change, I’ve enlisted in some professional help….quite frankly, I don’t have the financial where-with-all to pay a personal trainer (who does these days), but I’ve found a more economic option….group bootcamp! I’m going to be working out in a group setting with Ines of Napa Fit www.napafit.com  two days a week, and then working out on my own the rest of the time.  I think two days a week is the perfect amount because I don’t want someone holding my hand through the whole process….this way I’ll learn to motivate myself!

So when I signed up, Ines asked me for a “before” photo…obviously the most horrifying thing in the world right now is having my picture taken, so there wasn’t much to choose from. Here’s a few I submitted….

unfortunately the most recent picture...

a little older...but equally as bad

As you can see there are zero full body shots….wonder why that is?! So I’m looking at all these puffy faced photos, and it dawned on me….I really need to embrace and almost laugh at myself in this state…so this is the picture she went with….

oh yes mid-bite...giant sausage in hand...jacket button about to fly off...wearing the same scarf as the pic above...weird.

Now this pic was taken a while ago (notice the hair length); however, I was sitting at the same weight I am now showing two things….one, nothing’s changed….and two, that you have to laugh at yourself through this process…it’s the only thing that will make it bearable, and allow you to appreciate your progress in the end! check it out… http://www.bikinibootcampnapa.com/bootcamp_girls.html

Inspiration: Floral Adornments

by thebridalrecipe on January 26th, 2012

I think the most important part of my wedding day look is the hair. When you have a dress as simple as mine, you can have a lot more detail in the hair style and hair accessories. I’m leaning towards the side updo, and have picked the most gorgeous floral hairpiece.

The hairpiece is by Tessa Kim who’s creations are absolutely drool-worthy….Take a look! www.tessakim.com. The first two were contenders (I’m still second guessing whether-or-not I should’ve gone with the wreath), but ultimately I purchased the third one!

Inspiration: Fashion Forward Sweetness

by thebridalrecipe on January 24th, 2012

Nick and I are not dessert people (one of the many things we have in common)….we both will take a cheese course over a chocolate souffle any day; however, this is a wedding, and cake is expected. Instead of going totally traditional, we both decided it was better to make the cake an artistic and fashion inspired focal point at the reception. Here was some of the inspiration that just barely made the cut…

All gorgeous, however, when we saw this last one we knew nothing would ever top it!

I’m completely obsessed with this cake! I love how I just want to take the flowers and bow off of it and put them on my oh-so-simple dress. We’ve already met with Amber from Sweet On Cake, www.sweetoncake.com, (as seen on the Food Network), and made some adjustments….we are having the flowers modeled after my hairpiece.

Our flavors are Strawberry Basil Cream Cheese Filling with Vanilla Cake for two tiers and Toffee Crunch Chocolate Mousee filling with Chocolate Cake for the additional tier….First time in my whole life I’m actually looking forward to eating cake!

My New Best Friend…Literally

by thebridalrecipe on January 24th, 2012

As of two days ago the wedding was 26 weeks away (yes I have a week by week countdown going on the iPhone), and that may seem like a lot, but as I’ve found, when it comes to weight loss, there never seems to be enough time…so I’ve officially become proactive, and am embarking one what, I assume, will be the hardes 6 months ever!

In order to spear-head this effort, I’ve signed back up with a local bootcamp, NapaFit (post soon to come), and one of the trainer’s recommendations is to document everything you put into your mouth. I’ve done this in the past with journaling etc..but I’ve now found the most convenient and amazing program ever! WWW.MYFITNESSPAL.COM

This program allows you to set your own goals, document every calorie you eat, and track all of your progress! And they even have a mobile App!

I’m obsessed, and am totally confident that this is just the tool I need to jump start the weight loss goals!!

We’ll see….

Wooden “Save the Date” Cards

by thebridalrecipe on January 19th, 2012

I really went back and forth on whether or not we needed to send out “Save the Date” cards, but after browsing on Etsy.com (a frequent habit of mine), I just knew we had to have these. They are so different and rustic just like the rest of the wedding. Honestly, nothing sets the tone of an event more than the invitations…ours had better live up to this amazing first impression!

Thanks so much to Marlene for making these happen! We are also using her stamped bags for our favors at the wedding!
